Hello.

Sarah Chapin Gross is a registered Architect and Landscape Designer with a passion for creating harmonious, restorative spaces. A Baltimore native with an interest in history, Sarah dives deep into the physical and cultural geography of each project site.  This interest translates into gardens heavy on native plants and natural materials; designs which provide habitat for pollinators and birds as well as functional, beautiful places for people.

Before starting Cedar Avenue Design, Sarah designed gardens and outdoor living spaces for one of the Baltimore area’s top design-build landscaping companies, giving her hands-on experience on how beautiful gardens are crafted to ensure affordability and durability over time. Sarah currently also works at a local award-winning Landscape Architecture firm engaged in a wide range of public and commercial projects in the region. Cedar Avenue Design started as a way to continue to use her creative energy, design ability and knowledge of plants to improve people’s homes and gardens.

While landscape design is the focus of the majority of her work, Sarah also has over 12 years of professional experience as an Architect.  She received her Masters of Architecture from the University of Oregon in 2006 and has worked on various educational, institutional and residential projects in Vancouver, BC and Baltimore, MD.  Recently she has worked with clients to plan and execute home renovations and improvements.

Sarah has traveled extensively through the United States, Europe and India and has lived on the West Coast of the US and Canada, with brief stints living in Denmark and Japan.  This personal history brings a diverse perspective to every project. Whether navigating the complexities of home renovations or crafting naturalistic gardens, she is dedicated to guiding clients toward thoughtful, personalized solutions that enhance their space, inside and out.
